Strengthening Kankesanthurai Port Vital for Jobs and Growth in Sri Lanka’s North!

Jaffna District Parliamentarian Sivagnanam Shritharan has called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to prioritize the rapid development of the Kankesanthurai (KKS) Port during his upcoming visit to India.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page and the social media platform X, the MP emphasized the urgent need to finalize the long-pending Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to the USD 61 million grant already committed by the Government of India for the port’s development.

Shritharan stressed that the agreement should be structured as a long-term framework to ensure sustainable growth, expanded trade opportunities, and enhanced regional connectivity between Sri Lanka and India.

“The development of KKS Port is vital for accelerating economic revival in the Northern Province,” he noted, highlighting its potential to create employment opportunities and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

The MP further stated that timely action on this project would deliver lasting development benefits to the North and contribute significantly to regional economic integration.
