ITAK Member of Parliament Sivagnanam Shritharan met with the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Marc-André Franche, on Tuesday (24/03/2026) at the UN office (IOM) in Jaffna.

During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on the current political and socio-economic situation in the Northern Province. The UN Resident Coordinator was briefed on the significant governance gap caused by the prolonged delay in holding Provincial Council elections, and the daily challenges faced by the people as a result.
In particular, he emphasized that the indefinite postponement of elections has weakened devolution and led to stagnation within administrative structures. Discussions also focused in detail on revitalizing the post-war economy of the North and addressing youth unemployment by creating new job opportunities and effectively utilizing local resources to rebuild the economy.
